Carlson’s president Carilyn Anderson, daughter of founders Susan and John Carlson, grew up in the natural products industry—attending trade shows and helping at the company’s headquarters from a young age. She received her bachelor’s degree then returned to Carlson, working alongside Susan and John. As Executive Director of Botanical Research for Aveda, Cindy Angerhofer and her team explore the chemistry and biology of botanical ingredients in an effort to create high-performance plant-based personal care products. With more than 30 years of experience, she has used her expertise in pharmacognosy and plant-based science to help develop innovative botanically based cosmetics and dietary supplements. Angerhofer has authored more than 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals, and currently serves on the executive board of the American Society of Pharmacognosy, and the advisory board for the American Botanical Council.

Mark Blumenthal is the founder and executive director of the American Botanical Council (ABC), a leading independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to disseminating accurate, reliable and responsible information on herbs and medicinal plants. He is the editor and publisher of HerbalGram, an international, peer-reviewed quarterly journal. For six years, he was an adjunct associate professor of medicinal chemistry at the University of Texas at Austin, college of pharmacy. Mark is the senior editor of the English translation of The Complete German Commission E Monographs–Therapeutic Guide to Herbal Medicines (1998), Herbal Medicine: Expanded Commission E Monographs (2000), The ABC Clinical Guide to Herbs (2003), and co-author of Rational Phytotherapy, 5th edition (2004). He has appeared on more than 400 radio and television shows and has written over 500 articles, reviews and book chapters for many major publications. Mark has been a leader for more rational regulations of herbal and natural product manufacturing, and education on plant-based medicines for over 40 years.

Gene Bruno is the provost for Huntington College of Health Sciences and also the chief innovation officer for New Vitality. Bruno has bachelor's and master's degrees in nutrition, as well as a graduate diploma and master's degree in herbal medicine. As a 38-year veteran of the dietary supplement industry, he has formulated natural products for dozens of dietary supplement companies; educated and trained natural product retailers and health care professionals; and written articles on nutrition, herbal medicine, nutraceuticals and integrative health issues for trade, consumer and peer-reviewed publications, as well as authoring books and textbook chapters.

P. K. Davé is the founder and CEO of Nature’s Formulary. In 1993, he developed the first Ayurvedic line designed specifically for the Western population. Davé has more than 24 years of experience in wide-ranging fields, from raw materials to natural retail channel strategy. He has served on numerous industry associations, written many articles in industry trade publications and is often interviewed by the natural products media. Davé has spoken at industry events such as SupplySide and Natural Products Expo, and also travels extensively throughout the United States to conduct seminars on Ayurveda.

Bethany Davis is the director of regulatory and industry affairs for FoodState and MegaFood products. A member of the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) board of trustees, she also serves as president of the Coalition for Supplement Sustainability, a group of supplement and ingredient companies that united to support a non-GMO (genetically modified organism) and sustainable supply chain. With a background in pharmaceuticals, Davis was drawn to the natural products industry and is deeply engaged with non-GMO issues, sustainability and transparency. She holds a master’s degree in regulatory affairs and health policy from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in Boston.
